This month I read 4 books, a classic Elin Hilderbrand which took place in a haunted hotel, a spooky season mystery based in Hell, and two BRADs (beach read after dark per @Beachreadsandbubbly). Enjoy!
The Hotel Nantucket by Elin Hilderbrand- ⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5. Fresh off of a breakup, with long term boyfriend and coworker, L
Lizbet (hate that name but I somehow managed to get past it) is ready for a fresh start. She applies for a job as the GM at The Hotel Nantucket, which has been closed for decades, was once rumored to be haunted, and is getting a total makeover via London billionaire. To her pleasant surprise, Lizbet gets the job!
Opening a new hotel is stressful, as is managing the guests and staff, along with their secrets. To make matter even more complicated, the hotel is after an elusive 5 Key Rating from a mysterious influencer. Will the unknown Shelly Carpenter visit their hotel? What rating will they get? Will the ghost ruin everything? Full of lies, deception, a ghost, and a whole lot of drama, this novel is a complicated, deep, beach read.
Sign Here by Claudia Lux- ⭐⭐⭐ /5. This was an early release from BOTM, and like I have said in the past, if you are not a BOTM member, sign up here, it is worth it! You get to chose from hand selected books each month, and they are shipped directly to your door. This one was an early release, so I received the book and read it all before it was officially released on Oct 25th. You get perks like that with BOTM. Now onto the book. Peyote works in the deals department in Hell. Think "I'd sell my soul to never have to sit in this traffic again". Pey makes these deals with unsuspecting humans, which is a decent job, all things considered. While working on a plan to release himself from an eternity in Hell, he just needs one final member of the Harrison family to sell their soul. However, things are not always as they seem on Earth or in Hell.
As Pey watches on, the Harrison's pack up for their annual summer at the lake, this time with their daughter Mickey's new friend Ruth. Secrets are uncovered, scandal are revealed, and the truth finally comes out. A unique story, which I had high hopes for. However, it fell a bit flat for me.
Icebreaker (UCMH, #1) by Grace, Hannah- ⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5. Free on Kindle Unlimited, this is a classic BRAD, a light beach read with a handful of NSFW scenes. This book was adorable! Anastasia is on track to make the Olympic figure skating team, as long as she makes it through these last few years skating for her college team. Nathan is the captain of the hockey team, with a professional contract already in place for after he graduates. When the men's rink is vandalized, the hockey team and figure skating teams must now share a rink. Stassie and Nate clash, then of course fall for one another. A cute, easy read!
Scandalized by Ivy Owens- ⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5. Have you read anything by Christina Lauren in the past? The Unhoneymooners, The Soulmate Equation, or the fun holiday book In A Holidaze? Well... Christina Lauren is actually two authors that write together, and Ivy Owens is the pen name of Lauren in Christina Lauren. Following? This is Ivy/Lauren's solo debut and it was great!
Also free on Kindle Unlimited, this story starts by us meeting an exhausted Georgia, as she travels back from London to LA, when she recognizes someone in the rebooking line. Alec Kim, is the older brother of her childhood best friend, who she has not seen in a decade. Of course, he has only gotten better looking with age. The two end up spending the night together, by sharing a hotel room together while waiting for their rebooked flight the following morning. After landing in LA, Georgia is shocked at the mob of people that seem to be waiting to take Alec's photo once he exists the airport. Why are people waiting for him? Turns out, he is a pretty famous actor, and Georgia has been so into her work as an investigative journalist that she had no idea who he was.
The two start a secret affair, for the short time that Alec has planned to be in the states for work. Will their secret get out? Will feelings more than lust start to develop? Not just a BRAD, this book also has some mystery and suspense related to Georgia's work. A great debut from Lauren/Ivy!
