July Books- 2022

This month I read 6 books! Not all were award winning, or even decent for that matter, but I did get through 6. I have officially switched over to Bookshop to share links with you. I love Bookshop, because you are purchasing directly from a bookstore of your choosing. Every Purchase Supports Local Bookstores. A Better Way to Buy Books Online- which I love. You can shop my storefront here or the specific links to the books that I read are all listed below.

You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty by Akwaeke Emezi- ⭐⭐/5 stars. We welcomed someone new to book club last month, and then forced her to pick July's books. Sadly, I hated it. The main character was unreliable, unpredictable, and her behavior was truly all over the place. Because I finished, I gave it two stars, but I would not recommend this book to anyone. It quickly went into my donation pile. Consensus at book club was also a hard pass.

The Terminal List: A Thriller by Jack Carr- ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 stars. I have a major crush on Taylor Kitsch (aka Tim Riggins), who plays one of the characters in the book to TV adaptation of this story on Amazon Prime Video. Somehow I managed to hold off on watching the new series, until I finished the book. Both were amazing! The story follow James Reece, on what is to be his last mission and deployment as a Navy Seal. However, his team is ambushed, and he is only one of two survivors. Once back in US, the death toll climbs and those closest to Reece are now dead. Digging into the recent events, Reece uncovers a government conspiracy and coverup. The book then follows Reece as he creates his Terminal List of those that have wronged him. Full of action, suspense and drama- a great read!

The Wedding Game by Meghan Quinn- ⭐⭐⭐/5 stars. Read on my Kindle, this was a quick and easy romance. Luna Rossi is a craft Queen. Her favorite reality show is The Wedding Game, where couples, plus one family member, compete in weekly events as they craft their way to their dream wedding. When Luna reads that the show is casting in New York, she goes behind her brother's back to nominate him and his fiancé. Of course they are chosen! On the other side of Manhattan, divorce lawyer Alec Baxter's brother is begging him to join him and his pregnant fiancé on the show. In an attempt to mend their broken relationship, Alec agrees to help his brother on the show. In a classic enemies to lovers trope, Luna and Alec fall for one another. It is messy, fun, and entertaining for sure. A cute read.

One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle- ⭐⭐⭐/5 stars. This was a quick, easy read that really brought the beauty and magic of Positano to life across the pages. However, I thought the story was average. Katy just lost her mother Carol, who was her person in this world and her very best friend. Prior to her illness, Carol planned a mother daughter trip to her favorite place- Italy. However, she passes before the two are able to travel. Broken from her mother's passing, completely lost in life, Katy decides to make the trip solo. Once she arrives, it takes her no time to realize why her mother loved this place so much. The food, the water, the city built on a cliff- all wonderful. Then, one day, Katy sees her... her mother, 30 years ago. Throughout the story, Katy spends time with the younger version of her mother. It weirded me out a bit. I know it was supposed to be a lesson about love and grief, but it was not for me.

This month I also read two CLAS (chick lit and smut) books, both available for free on Kindle Unlimited. They are part of a three part series, I now have read all 3, and I am not ashamed. Pure smut, and they surprisingly have a plot as well. Below is a short recap on the two that I read this month.

Mr Spencer by T. L. Swan- Mr. Spencer, an architect and steel manufacturer, is also known as one of London's biggest rakes. While attending a wedding, he spots Charlotte from across the room. Charlotte is the daughter of one of the richest and most powerful men in England, and off limits. She has her own around the clock security, she is literally off limits. However, that does not stop Spencer. What starts off as a secret affair, quickly escapes into the public eye.

Mr Master by T.L. Swan- Another book in the Kindle Unlimited Series, that is pure smut. Mr. Julian Masters is a widow, with two children. Brielle is taking a break from her engineering career in Australia, and signed up to be a nanny for 1 year in England. Of course Mr. Masters falls for his nanny! Steamy, sneaky and fun.
